On behalf of the 2.2 million members of AMAC – Association of Mature American Citizens, we are pleased to support enactment of S. 4198, the “Affordable Coronavirus Testing Act.”
AMAC and its members have been passionately involved in the effort to make healthcare in America as transparent as possible. As an organization and like you, we believe that freemarket competition will drive down costs and give healthcare consumers many more choices, which is something that pricing transparency accomplishes.
S. 4198 is great initiative in the national need to help the American people, particularly those on limited incomes, to obtain COVID-19 antibodies testing. In this connection, the bill requires all health insurance plans, private and government including Medicare, Medicaid, the CHIPs program, veterans, and military personnel, to cover through 2021 without cost sharing COVID- 19 serology testing, which looks for the presence of antibodies made in response to an infection.
In addition, the bill thoughtfully and compassionately requires the Department of Health and Human Services to reimburse, through the Public Health and Social Services Emergency Fund, health care providers for the cost of providing diagnosis and treatment for COVID-19 to
individuals without health insurance.
