nursingS. 4866 establishes enhanced oversight in nursing homes that have chronically failed to meet Medicare and Medicaid standards. This bipartisan legislation works to increase the quality of care seniors receive in nursing homes and long term care facilities and improve protections against infectious diseases.

The Honorable Pat Toomey
Senator from Pennsylvania

Dear Senators Casey and Toomey,

On behalf of the more than 2.3 million members of AMAC – Association of Mature American Citizens, including over 93,000 who reside in the state of Pennsylvania and all mature Americans nationwide, I write to express our support for your bipartisan legislation, S. 4866, the Nursing Home Reform Modernization Act of 2020.

A staggering number of Americans have died from the coronavirus in nursing homes and long-term care facilities throughout the country. Clearly, the issues of quality of care and accountability urgently need to be addressed in all facilities that care for America’s seniors, but especially so in those that have consistently failed to meet federal standards.

Your bill increases the number of nursing homes in the Special Focus Facility (SFF) Program in order to provide much needed oversight for those facilities that have repeatedly failed to meet Medicare and Medicaid standards in areas like infection control and prevention and other abuses by a significant margin. S. 4866 also creates an Advisory Council comprised of diverse representation for older adults, people with disabilities, nursing homes, states, and others to advise Health and Human Services (HHS) on how to appropriately rank the performance of nursing home programs.

Thank you, Senators Casey and Toomey, for your commitment to increasing the quality of care for our seniors in nursing homes and also for prioritizing their safety in these facilities. AMAC is pleased to offer our organization’s full support for S. 4866, the Nursing Home Reform Modernization Act of 2020.

Sincerely,

Bob Carlstrom
President, AMAC Action

This bill goes nowhere, if Trump is not in the WH in 2021. Senator Toomey, who is trying to push President Trump out the door as fast as he can, knows this. He is just trying to clean up his image to a PA voter base that is wise to him. AMAC might want to ask the Senator some tough questions one of these days.

A Biden / Harris administration has much different priorities than ensuring the care of seniors in these facilities. That’s a fact. Granting citizenship to the 40 million illegals already here and then opening our borders to unlimited numbers of new illegals takes priority. All would be registered Democrat voters to ensure the outcome of all future elections.

Slow down and educate yourselves before jumping on this bandwagon. Thousands of people have died in the US not just nursing homes. More regulations won’t fix this and I thought that’s what this organization was about. We have regulations, we need staff, still need PPE, why are we held to a seemingly higher standard. People have died in other health care institutions, are we going after them? It’s always those bad nursing homes. We work very hard, we love our residents. I work 12 to 14 hours a day 6 to 7 days a week to care for residents. I have not read this legislation, but the headline was enough
