The Service-Disabled Veterans Small Business Continuation Act seeks to relieve the financial pain experienced by the spouses of less than 100% service-disabled deceased veterans by extending VA-contracting preference for three years for their small businesses. This provision keeps their businesses viable with no disruption to their livelihoods. AMAC has long valued the contributions and sacrifices made by America’s men and women in uniform and is grateful to support this legislation that helps the families of deceased veterans.

The Honorable John Cornyn
Senator from Texas
517 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510

Dear Senator Cornyn,

On behalf of the 2.1 million members of AMAC – Association of Mature American Citizens, including over 185,000 residing in Texas, I write to offer our support for S. 3008, the Service-Disabled Veterans Small Business Continuation Act.

As an age 50+ organization comprised of many veterans, AMAC has long advocated for the well-being, be it physical or financial, of America’s men and women who have served our great nation. In fact, AMAC’s late founder, Dan Weber, served honorably in the Air Force for four years and also owned small businesses throughout his career.

Currently, the spouses of a deceased veteran who was 100% service-disabled and owned a small business are able to retain their preference in Veterans Administration (VA) contracting. However, this preference immediately ends for those spouses of small business-owning veterans who were less than 100% service-disabled when the veteran dies.

S. 3008 seeks to relieve the financial pain experienced by the spouses of less than 100% service-disabled deceased veterans by extending VA-contracting preference for three years for their small businesses. This provision keeps their businesses viable with no disruption to their livelihoods. A similar bill, H.R. 499, passed in the House and AMAC looks forward to the Senate passing this legislation.

Thank you, Senator Cornyn, for recognizing the sacrifice America’s veterans have made on behalf of our nation and for sponsoring legislation that will help their families. Your bill will assuredly help veteran-owned small businesses prosper and AMAC is pleased to offer our organization’s full support for S. 3008, the Service-Disabled Veterans Small Business Continuation Act.

Sincerely,
Bob Carlstrom
President, AMAC Action
