AMAC offered its support for H.R. 5076, the Protecting Seniors Through Immunizations Act. The bill aims to eliminate out-of-pocket expenses for vaccinations for anyone covered under the Medicare program. Right now, vaccines available under Part B are offered without any co-payment while those offered under Part D require sharing of costs. The bipartisan bill was sponsored by Rep. Donna Shalala (FL-27).

But vaccines aren’t reliable with senior citizens. I would much rather have more than 80% coverage. I owe over $20K for two cancer surgeries and I know not how much for all the wound care and lab work… All because I couldn’t afford a MediGap policy… Make a bit too much for Medicaid.

I wonder how many remember that Rep. Donna Shalala was Secretary of the HHS, during President Clinton’s Administration, from 1993 to 2001? I remembered and I think this is a good bill to get behind and support. I do know that she isn’t a Conservative, but I also think, during her years at the HHS got to her and she still sympathizes with the Senior Citizens. She had 8 years of being the Sec. of HHS, so she is aware of Senior Citizens’ issues. I believe this bill is trying to equalize the benefits for those of us who have a Medicare Advantage Plan C with a Plan D coverage and those Senior Citizens who only have Medicare. Just a thought … Another thing that needs to be done, when those who have a Plan D prescription plan, should our doctors give us a Brand Name prescription, that is off the charts with NO co-pays available … We can’t even get a financial break by the Drug Company, that offers low costs, due to us having a Plan D Prescription coverage. But those who don’t have the Plan D coverage can get the low-cost break from the Drug Companies. This is NOT fair and NEEDS to be changed!!!
