amacAMAC members have demanded health care reform for years. There are numerous free-market proposals in S. 4796 and H.R. 8527 which would lower the cost of prescription drugs, increase access to care, and codify price transparency.

The Honorable Mike Braun
Senator from Indiana
374 Russell Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510

The Honorable Bruce Westerman
4th Congressional District of Arkansas
209 Cannon House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Senator Braun and Congressman Westerman,

On behalf of the more than 2.3 million members of AMAC – Association of Mature American Citizens, including over 53,000 and 6,200 who reside in the state of Indiana and AR-04, respectively, I write to express our support for your bicameral legislation, S. 4796 and H.R. 8527, the Fair Care Act of 2020.

Reforming health care transcends political parties. AMAC members recognize that the problems with our health care system affects all Americans, regardless of political persuasion. This is one reason we are pleased to see that your legislation is constructed with more than 75 bipartisan provisions.

Your legislation contains many free-market improvements that resonate well with our membership including: using pre-tax dollars to cover direct primary care memberships, promoting transparency both in the upfront cost for medical services and in billing, streamlining the prescription drug approval process to bring medicines to patients faster, and expanding telehealth services.

It is also gratifying to see that your legislation includes the reform of pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) business practices. AMAC feels strongly that genuine reform of the relationships PBMs have with pharmaceutical manufacturers will result in drastically lowering the list cost of medications and effect a significant savings for all Americans.

Thank you, Senator Braun, and Congressman Westerman, for introducing legislation that can have a significant impact on the quality of life for every American. We at AMAC appreciate your sensible proposals and are proud to offer our full support for the Fair Care Act of 2020.

Sincerely,
Bob Carlstrom
President, AMAC Action

Medicare covers the cost of psychiatrists, psychologists, and licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs) but not licensed professional clinical counselors (LPCCs). In my opinion people over 65 need this coverage as it can be so very difficult to adjust to nearing the end of life, being retired or having lost the support of family and friends. Legislation like the Mental Health Access Improvement Act HR 945 was introduced in 2019 but seems to have stalled. It should be a PRIORITY, especially in these current turbulent times.
