workersThis bipartisan legislation, which recently passed the House, levels the playing field for older workers in America by legally recognizing age discrimination in the workplace.

The Honorable Bobby Scott
3rd District of Virginia
2328 Rayburn HOB
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Chairman Scott,

On behalf of our more than 2.3 million members across the country, the Association of Mature American Citizens (AMAC) is writing in support of the Protecting Older Workers Against Discrimination Act of 2021, H.R. 2062. This bipartisan legislation levels the playing field for older workers in America by legally recognizing age discrimination in the workplace.

In 2009, the Supreme Court placed aging Americans need for strong workplace protections on the backburner in the Gross V. FBL Financial Services decision which weakened protection rights under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA). Under ADEA workers that face age discrimination must comply to a higher standard of proof compared to other discriminatory offenses such as race, sex, and religion. Prior to the ruling, a discriminatory claim needed to be supported by proof that discrimination was a contributing factor in an employment decision. Currently, a worker facing age discrimination must prove it was the deciding factor for the decision. The Supreme Court rule set a precedence that age discrimination is not an equivalent discriminatory offense, therefore acceptable in the workplace. For AMAC members this is unacceptable, and we fully support your legislation to fix this change.

The Protecting Older Workers Against Discrimination Act would restore the pre-Gross standards recognizing the legitimacy of age discrimination in the workplace. We appreciate the bipartisan effort by Congressman Scott (VA-03) for introducing this commonsense solution. AMAC is proud to support the Protecting Older Workers Against Discrimination Act and urges all members to vote in favor of this legislation.

Sincerely,
Bob Carlstrom
President, AMAC Action

We need fairness of all ages above the legal working age.

I worked in a medical office that was over 90% women and over 90% 30 and below. We live in a world now that has very little respect for the opinion, employment and experience of people over 40yo and that disrespect increases commensurately as a person gets older, over 50yo respectively. In a world that has been severely effected in a negative way towards men (especially manliness) as a result of the radical feminest movement in the medical field in which women are typically of the higher majority, upwards of 90% in most settings then the attitude toward men, especially aging men is, while well cloaked, highly discriminatory. If you are younger and let’s say sexier to the eyes, and do not carry yourself as a Christian man, or you are gay you are golden but any other personality is treated with a great degree of unpopularity and disdain. This exists all the way thru management. In the medical field if you are a “provider” or a nurse maybe then you are exempted by nature of your position but all others, in some cases even male nurses, you are dirt and subject to discrimination and firing. I went thru hell for the 6 years I worked at that doctors office and my female manager and a female coworker that acted as a 2 faced informant were finally able to root me out of a job! I am too old fashioned to walk away from a decent paying job with good benefits on my own especially at 56yo. It was a blessing in disguise because I am now at the post office and walking everyday, losing weight, gaining back lost muscle mass, and feeling better everyday. While the management has a lot to be desired it is a far cry better and at early on in the game more fair towards men and aged individuals then is the medical field! But, the point is that our society and this country has, due to the loss of JudeoChristian ideological thinking standards and values; the proliferation of the Radical feminest agenda; the proliferation of Marxist based philosophical agendas pushed thru our society at every level, especially our institutions of teaching from K thru Doctorate education; the proliferation of dishonest liberal political ideas pushed by politicians designed to keep those that are gullible, unlearned and unresearched on the socioeconomic issues that they and their communities face to continually vote for them and keep them in office; and just the general aspects of the negatives that we as a lethargic non-Christian society have stood by and allowed to dominate our current culture: actual true, quality, well thought, independent thinking and necessary effective ideologies pertain to the varied aspects of a sound and healthy society are going totally defunct in the society that we are facing today! If anyone and everyone that has an inkling of an idea of this active and pressing matter in this country doesn’t become very active in the fight against the ever present destructive forces to our way of life then we are all going to be in a world of shit!

I have been the victim of age discrimination. I did not deserve what I got but I could do nothing about it. It’s high time older workers had serious protection!
