Dear Congresswoman McMorris Rodgers and Senator Hoeven,
On behalf of the 2.3 million members of AMAC – Association of Mature American Citizens, including over 9,900 residing in WA-05, and over 7,100 members who live in North Dakota; I write to offer our support for H.R. 6858, the American Energy Independence from Russia Act and its Senate companion, S. 3752.
As an organization comprised of many Americans concerned with our nation’s energy security and independence, AMAC was pleased to see your bill address the continued availability of our most important natural resources, supporting the completion and operation of the Keystone XL pipeline, providing for energy independence by removing restrictions on and encouraging new opportunities for domestic fossil fuel resources, and reducing our dependence on Russian imports. Our members are also troubled that Russia is using oil revenues to support their unjustified and inhumane attack on
Ukraine, further strengthening their desire to eliminate our nation’s dependence on Russian oil.
In addition, AMAC members, many who live on fixed incomes, care greatly about the rising cost of fuel in every area including transportation and home heating. Should your bill become law, it could potentially reduce these costs for all Americans.
Your bill would direct the President to work together with Congress to reduce or prevent delays in arranging for permits and land leases, prevent the withdrawal of appropriate lands from availability to support oil production, and protect our strategic petroleum reserve.
