America’s Education Problem: Addressing the Liberal Dominance in Academia

One of the most fundamental goals in life is ensuring that our children receive a thorough and unbiased education. Countless studies have shown a direct correlation between higher education levels and success in life. In order to make smart decisions in one’s life and become a successful, well respected citizen who contributes to his or her community, getting a good education, particularly early childhood education, There has been a long-standing and troubling trend in America’s higher education system, however, that having gone unchecked for years is now permeating into K-12 classrooms. America has an education problem that is being driven by an increasingly liberal agenda while most of the country remains moderate or right leaning. It’s past time we address liberal dominance in academia.

A study conducted by American Enterprise Institute (AEI) nonresident senior fellow Samual J. Abrams and associate professor of history Amna Khalid revealed that “the data for three campus constituencies unequivocally show that liberals are considerably overrepresented on university and college campuses. And the research on campus climate reveals a decrease in openness to non-liberal viewpoints.”

The authors found that in 1989-1990, “42% of faculty identified as being on the left, 40% were moderate, and another 18% were on the right” indicating a clear lean to the left even back then. The same study in 2016-2017 showed “60% of the faculty identified as either far left or liberal compared to just 12% being conservative or far right,” a liberal to conservative ratio that has more than doubled. This overwhelming dominance has led to bias which has manifested itself in the form of harmfully untrue teaching on race, gender, and the history of America.

Abrams and Khalid then compare their findings to the average political leanings of American citizens. While the political leanings of university faculty has swung wildly to the left over the last 30 years, there was only a minor shift to the left of the average American citizen. Abrams and Khalid write that “In the fall of 1989, 26% of Americans were on the liberal side of the spectrum, 42% were moderate, and the remaining 29% described themselves as  conservative. This is a normal distribution and shows a tendency to cluster toward the center.” Three decades later, the numbers show a similarly normal trend, with “31% of Americans saying they are conservative or very conservative, 43% moderate, and 24% are liberal or very liberal.”

Luckily, parents who reasonably want answers about what their children are learning are being emboldened. Due largely to COVID-19 lockdowns and remote learning, thousands of parents across the country have had a rare chance to sit in and listen to what their kids were actually being taught over the past two years. Parents are not pleased.

In fact, over the past year and half, parents have pushed back and voted out of office hundreds of incumbent Democrats from school board to Governors. Conservatives have now swept into Republican majorities in school board races in Colorado, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin so far.

In the wealthy DC suburbs of northern Virginia, things got so heated at a school board meeting last year that two people were arrested as the board debated transgender bathrooms, and the teaching of sexual orientation and Critical Race Theory (CRT). This grassroots push back was on display in Virginia’s 2021 gubernatorial election when Democrat Terry McAuliffe confessed “I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach” during a debate with Republican Glenn Youngkin. Youngkin prevailed, liberal school boards remained smugly defiant. Many refused to relax their masking rules for children after Youngkin unilaterally ended state mandates. At AMAC Action, we are dug in against liberal dominance in academia including the teaching of divisive Critical Race Theory. We have helped our members make thousands of contacts to Capitol Hill on the issue.

Americans, understandably so, are more attuned to their children’s education today and that is a great thing for our country. Parents with a new found courage are starting to push back against the liberal dominance in academia but the bias in schools continues to be so wildly out of whack that constant reform is needed. It’s time for major changes in the education system where liberal dominated faculties are not permitted to lie to our children about race, gender, or the founding of this great country we call home.

Any conservative parent whose children are still in the public schools deserves all the indoctrination their children receive. There are ways to homeschool aside from quitting your job and staying home. Really comes down to dumping the excuses and do what needs to be done. Aren’t your children worth more than your excuses???

This story is at least 50 years too late. Liberals started taking over the University systems back in the late 60’s early 70’s. That is when they started teaching the Liberal BS that is now a mainstay in the education system. There was and still is a big push to get kids into colleges and universities with the intent to spread the Liberal Ideologies of today. This push was by the US Government by putting the idea into kids’ heads that the only way to succeed in life is to get a degree. I used to hear it all the time if you want to succeed in life you need to go to college, get a degree, a High School Education is not enough anymore. I have seen more people dealing with outrageously high student debt to get a degree, and for what? Many never get the opportunity to use the degree. Many of these students would have been much better off going to Vocational or Technical Schools. I have a friend that got his degree from Texas A&M, never used it now working as a plumber and making more money than he could have if he utilized his degree. I spent 20+ years in the Military, and spent a whole lot of that time working for what many would consider to be Educated Idiots. Officers with educations that had nothing to do with the positions they held. Imagine putting an English Major in charge of a department full of Engineers that run the ships main propulsion plant. Or a Mechanical Engineer in charge of a department that handles Supplies. You may laugh but this has been going on for years. Would you want to follow an English Major into battle on the ground that had no experience with battle planning?

Liberals and Leftists are blatant liars because they believe their goals are so important that getting there should be done at all costs including lies, hate, violence, destruction of free thinking and anything else they can think of doing. These people are essentially criminals and need to be thrown out of their jobs and not permitted in academic environments. Normal and fair minded Americans have been used by these people and we now have to stand up and not allow it any longer. These Leftists despise America and you. How long will we tolerate this nonsense and destructive behavior? Not one more second.

Education is a state function covering policy and much of the funding for public schools and colleges.

We have the power to defund every kind if liberal BS in state education.

State colleges can have funding deleted for professors, staff, degrees programs etc. for:

Journalism
Sociology
Psychology
Gender studies
Racial studies
And so on.

Public schools can have their curriculum and staff purged of every stain of woke, politically correct propaganda.

Our job is to find candidates who will act, fund them, campaign for them and support them when they fight to restore American values in education.

Even Hitler knew, subvert the young and you gradually take over the whole. Democrats need to go, maybe they could all pack up and move to a prosperous (sick) country like left leaning Venezuela.

That first paragraph was confusing. I had to read it several times to realize that a sentence must have been edited beyond language comprehesion. I agree with the sentiment of it that I’m assuming, though.

Nearly every source ranks the USA as the best country to get an education? With 46% of our population having at least an undergraduate degree, 5th highest in the world. However, we are ranked 27th in intelligence. With the ease of obtaining student loans colleges have been turning out educated idiots with useless degrees. Most of us baby boomers assumed our children and grandchildren were getting a good, common sense education, we were asleep. It is rime we wake up and wake up our children and hold our schools accountable, from kindergarten to college.

Standards lowered continuous for OVER past 40 years and today are the results.
More Standards being lowered to APPEASE the ILLEGAL ALIEN TERRORIST now attending schools with YOUR CHILDREN.
Universities and Colleges follow right along. Example: Master Degree today is equivalent to Sophomore level in Senior High School in 1977.

I agree that the educational system is rotten from the inside out, and we must save the children from it. My concern is that the teachers who are teaching our children were all produced by a diseased collegiate educational system. How can we fix the problem if the source that produces teachers continues to churn out fatally biased educators?

All of this is already widely known by at least the half of Americans. So rather than simply conducting yet another study to tell us what we already know, perhaps it would be more useful for the AEI to formulate a definitive set of realistic solutions that could be implemented at this late day to at least mitigate the problem. What we need are solutions to the problems the American people have allowed to fester for far too many decades. We already know the problems themselves exist.
