When New Jersey Democratic Rep. Albio Sires announced that he wouldn’t seek reelection, he became the 23rd sitting Democrat in the House of Representatives to opt out of seeking another term in Congress.
For a party with a majority that depends upon a mere handful of votes, losing 23 House veterans is a crushing blow, but more such announcements are expected as filing deadlines approach for the 2022 midterm congressional elections.
Among other Democrats who aren’t running again are House Budget Committee Chairman John Yarmuth of Kentucky, Rep. Mike Doyle of Pennsylvania, Rep. David Price of North Carolina, Rep. Cheri Bustos of Illinois, Rep. Filemon Vela of Texas, and Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick of Arizona.
And no wonder, considering the latest survey results of likely voters by noted Democratic pollster and campaign strategist Doug Schoen and partner Carly Cooperman, which show majorities disapproving of President Joe Biden’s performance and holding congressional Democrats responsible for the nation’s growing list of serious problems.
Schoen’s survey is especially telling because of the intensity of voter determination reflected in the responses. Fully 72 percent said they are “absolutely certain” to vote in November 2022 and another 28 percent said they are “very likely.”
Numbers like those suggest 2022 could see a record midterm turnout if the present trends continue. That has to be especially worrisome for Democratic leaders because there’s virtually no good news for them in the Schoen results.
Two-thirds, or 66 percent, of respondents agreed when asked if they believe “Joe Biden and Democrats in Congress are out of touch with hardworking Americans. They have been so focused on passing their own agenda that they’ve been ignoring Americans’ day-to-day concerns, such as the rising prices for goods and gasoline.” Only 30 percent disagreed.
Similarly, 65 percent agreed when asked if they agree that “I thought things in the country were going to change for the better with Joe Biden’s election, but it’s just been more of the same. The country is still divided, the coronavirus pandemic is still ongoing—and now, on top of that, inflation is at a 30-year high and gasoline prices are soaring.” Thirty-one percent disagreed.
On issue after issue, respondents expressed disagreement and dissatisfaction with the direction the country is heading with Democrats in control of the White House and both the Senate and House of Representatives:
Democrats are blamed for rising inflation 48 percent to 31 percent for Republicans.
Democrats are blamed for the surge in illegal immigration by a 33-point margin, 55 percent to 22 percent, over Republicans.
Democrats are blamed for the nationwide crime surge, 48 percent to 27 percent for Republicans.
Democrats are blamed for the hiring shortages plaguing business, 41 percent to 31 percent for Republicans.
Other results are just as discouraging for Democrats.
Asked “generally speaking, would you prefer that there be Democratic control or Republican control of the U.S. House of Representatives,” 46 percent of the respondents said they prefer GOP control, while 43 percent chose Democratic control.
Asked how concerned they are with the violent crime surge, 58 percent said they are very concerned and 31 percent said they are somewhat concerned. A huge majority of the respondents, 62 percent, said they oppose defunding the police.
Perhaps even more disturbing for Democrats is that 69 percent of the respondents agreed that “Joe Biden and Democrats are soft on crime.”
And 67 percent of the respondents said the country has become more divided since Biden took office, while 52 percent said they believe Biden has weakened the U.S. economy.
Rep. Sean Maloney (D-N.Y.), who heads the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), is being slammed by party colleagues who fear that he’s pushing the party down the wrong strategic path.
“Universally, we heard that there’s been too much Trump talk, not enough focus on pocketbook issues. [former Virginia Gov. Terry] McAuliffe banged the anti-Trump drum constantly on his way to losing the race for Virginia governor,” Politico recently reported.
“But at-risk members we spoke with worry that Maloney is still embracing the Trump-as-boogeyman strategy, blasting Republicans as extreme for seeking his blessing or otherwise supporting him,” Politico stated.
Other factors, including the bitterly partisan atmosphere, are playing into the growing list of Democrats deciding to leave the House. Sires, the Cuban immigrant who is serving his eighth term, told Roll Call on Dec. 20 that he’s leaving because “the whole atmosphere in Washington is awful. You either have to be from the left or from the extreme right, and I don’t think that’s good for the country.”
Democrats control the House in the 117th Congress with 221 seats, versus 213 for the GOP. That means a shift of only five Democrats to vote with Republicans is required for Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to lose on critical issues.
Republicans are ebullient about their prospects, with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) warning Democrats in November that “if you are a Democrat and President Biden won your seat by 16 points, you are in a competitive race next year. You are no longer safe.”
Yet another article completely ignoring the elephant in the room of mail-in balloting likely still be widely used in 2022. While a few states are tightened up their voting laws to return to pre-Covid normal voting rules (which in many cases needed improvement to minimize opportunities for fraudulent activities), virtually none of the Democrat controlled states have any intention of ever scaling back or eliminating the wide spread use of mail-in ballots. For that matter, a number of Republican states are still dragging their feet in this area. So while everything is indicating one or both houses of Congress will flip to Republican control after the mid terms, that is based on honest and fair elections. While there is still time for the Republican states that have still not done anything to address this issue to act, time is running short.
As a side note, even some Republicans are starting to come out and rightly criticize the current messaging of Congressional Republican leadership to attract voters dissatified with the Biden train wreck. Both McConnell and McCarthy just keep repeating the same old tired line of “It’s historically normal for the minority party to pick up congressional seats in the mid terms.”. That essentially is their entire campaign plan for the mid terms. Just sit back and rely on history hopefully repeating itself to win back one or both houses of Congress. Talk about a lack of effort on their part.
It’s time for Republicans to offer a set of goals (real deliverables, NOT the usual BS throwaways that go away as soon as the campaigns are over), in broad terms for now (details filled in more the closer we get to election day), of what a Republican controlled House and Senate will do starting Day One to undo the damage of the last year. You know, a real plan and reason to vote FOR someone, instead of simply relying on dissatisfaction with the Democrat agenda to win the day. So far almost every single Congressional Republican interviewed on TV, radio or in print has given no reason to vote FOR them by offering some concrete deliverables.
We need to ensure the Democrats don’t control either house of Congress after the mid terms or this country will be long gone by 2024. Remember, Biden can do a massive amount of damage via executive orders and regulatory changes until 2024. At some point, Senator Manchin is going to vote for some version of the BBB bill if he wins re-election and it will be lights out for our republic. So it is time for Congressional Republicans to get off their A$$es and up their game.
It truly is a remarkable fact that President Trump still lives totally rent free within the heads of his Marxist malcontent opponents even to this very day!
What will it mean though? The Democrats have control over the voting system, so no matter how many people vote against them, they will still have a majority. Fix that, and we will see truer results
Dear God! I am so afraid of this election. I know that our country is headed in the wrong direction. This election will determine a change in course. We cannot go on like this. Our enemies, China and Russia, smell blood in the water. We need Republican leadership. Frankly, I am scared to death.
Democrats are divided as never before between “traditional American” “liberals” and “progressives”. The split was ignored by the press but can’t be forever, and “forever” has a way of showing up sooner or later.
Republicans have their own problems. Mr. Trump’s bad behavior post-2020 election will disqualify him for plenty more than is necessary to deny him another run. And Mr. Biden’s incompetence will sour the Americans’ taste for geriatric governance. Who else are the Democrats going to put up? Kamala? Corey Booker? Lizzie Warren?
And Mr. Trump has an ego the size of Delaware (or maybe Florida). If the party can convince him to be a king-maker (and not a king) in 2024, Republicans might run the field. Of course, then we have to keep Republican “leadership” from failing to move the counteroffensive. They have a knack for Big Talk and Little Action.
But we have, for the moment, averted America going over the cliff. Can we keep the “shiny side up” on our civilization? 20% of our population has been taught to hate our country, and given the hostile takeover of the Democrat party they have convinced themselves they’ve got carte blanche to do whatever they want. That the majority of Americans are deeply offput by this nonsense is our saving grace. But the conflict can’t be avoided. We must bury this ideology for once and for all in 2024.
Good to get a good start on that eradication in 2022, too.

While I certainly hope the Republicans take back control of Congress, it won’t matter if they govern like RINOS. We need representatives who are Constitutional conservatives. If the GOP governs as usual, they will quickly find themselves back in the minority. The Republicans need a positive plan ( not just tax cuts) to take back Congress and should fight hard each and every day against socialism as if their ( and our) lives depend on it, because they do.

According to the historical record, the Democrat Party has been engaged in voter registration and election fraud since the 1850’s. Yes, you read that right. In recent years, the Democrats have expanded the level of fraud to an astronomical degree in order to steal many elections nationwide. The Republicans keep stating that there is going to be “a Red Wave” in 2022 and 2024. I beg to differ. After the elections of November 2020 and January 2021, it has become clear that the will of the voters means nothing when the Democrats are allowed to cheat. I believe the “dems” are not overly concerned about much of anything that they are doing, because they are hoping that their antics will cause some form of civil disobedience,that will be declared as an “insurrection”, so that they can declare a “National emergency” by executive order- shutting down all government activity except the president- who will then takeover the military, cancel the elections,send out the military, to confiscate all findable firearms. both the courts and the legislative branches will be shutdown until the “emergency” is determined to be over. But, unless we fix election fraud, it doesn’t matter HOW badly the democrats look, it will go their way with voter fraud, illegals voting, dead people voting, out of state people voting, and simply having people vote two and three times with no one checking.
I still think the only way to vote is in person, showing your ID, and marking your own ballot.
With a strong grass roots effort, we can educate the unthinking masses and turn this thing on it’s head. We don’t dare think conservatives have this in the bag, but the Democrats have a very long up hill battle ahead that they will lose, even with a huge war chest that will ultimately be unleashed.
This election remember that just having an “(R)” after their name doesn’t necessarily mean “conservative”… or even Republican sometimes! Sorry to be a downer but we’ve been fooled before by big talk of a “Wave” and then one happens and… nothing changes.
