Today, President Trump signed the Paycheck Protection Plan Increase Act which boosts funding for the
Paycheck Protection Program, increases funding for hospitals, and improves COVID-19 testing capabilities.

Specifically, the legislation provides an additional $310 billion in Payment Protection Plan funding, $50 billion in Economic Injury Disaster Loans, $75 billion in reimbursement to hospitals and healthcare providers, and $25 billion to research, manufacture, and facilitate testing for COVID-19. AMAC Action President Bob Carlstrom said “Helping small businesses keep their doors open and keep the economy running is a priority for AMAC Action. We stand behind the President as he works to keep Congress
focused on helping the American people.”

The recently passed CARES Act, passed to address the coronavirus, had a number of improvements to the law that AMAC recommended to the administration and Congress, including: suspending required minimum distributions for seniors, allows Americans to access retirement funds to offset economic hardship created by the virus, expanding telehealth for seniors to ensure they are not exposed to the virus as doctors’ offices or hospitals, and prevent harmful changes to how direct primary care physicians do business.

As Congress continues to deliberate next steps to help the country through these difficult times, AMAC Action is recommending a number of changes to help the country, including: stopping surprise medical billing for all procedures including COVID-19, expanding low income patients’ access to healthcare by providing doctors with a charitable tax deduction for pro-bono care, enact President Trump’s efforts on price transparency in healthcare, and stopping the garnishment of Social Security benefits by the federal government.

Thank you for staying engaged through our COVID-19 portal on the AMAC website, and we look forward to keeping you updated on more action out of Washington, DC.
