Self-Hatred Is America’s Worst Enemy

AMAC Exclusive by Aaron Kliegman

Leftists want you to think America is evil, a horribly racist nation that oppresses everyone except straight White men. And anyone who defends, let alone celebrates, our country is complicit in the oppression.

To the left, America is something to hate, not love, and being American is a source of shame, not pride.

As many Americans now recognize, this malignant attitude has infected the Democratic Party and our elite cultural institutions. Hollywood, the media, academia, corporate America — our American culture is becoming increasingly anti-American. Sadly, we’ve gotten to the point where it’s scandalous to say America isn’t a racist country.

Just ask Sen. Tim Scott, the only Black Republican in the Senate, who said as much in his rebuttal to President Biden’s address before a joint session of Congress.

“Hear me clearly: America is not a racist country,” Scott said. “It’s backwards to fight discrimination with different types of discrimination. And it’s wrong to try to use our painful past to dishonestly shut down debates in the present.”

Sounds pretty reasonable, right?

Wrong. At least according to the left, which absurdly castigated Scott for his words, labeling him an Uncle Tom — a traitor to his race. A Democratic leader in Texas even had to resign after calling Scott an “oreo,” which refers to a Black person who is perceived as acting White.

The visceral outrage was telling: To progressives, merely suggesting the goodness of America is sinful. Never mind, they’re the ones deploying racial slurs against a Black man, trying to shame and intimidate Americans into demonizing their country.

It’s fitting that the backlash against Scott came days after President Biden said the conviction of Derek Chauvin for the death of George Floyd allowed the world to see “the systemic racism that is a stain on our nation’s soul.” Left-wing internet trolls aren’t the only ones smearing their country; the president of the United States is as well.

Such self-hatred is bad enough at home, within the confines of America’s borders. But the Biden administration is taking this anti-American message abroad for the world to see.

Just last month, Biden’s ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said that white supremacy is “weaved” into America’s “founding documents and principles.”

A few days later, Thomas-Greenfield added, “If we are going to be a voice around the globe for raising issues of human rights, we cannot whitewash our own issues in our own country.”

State Department spokesman Ned Price retweeted Thomas-Greenfield’s comments, writing, “We must continue to reflect upon the inequities here at home and recommit ourselves to fighting for justice and human rights.”

The message is clear: The US can’t talk about justice, equality, or human rights until it gets its own house in order.

In short, America’s no better than any other country. So much for a “city upon a hill.”

Of course, this whole notion is absurd, drawing a false moral equivalence between the US and countries that actually abuse human rights, like China and Iran.

It’s worth asking the Biden administration: How can America be a beacon of hope for the world when you routinely malign it? And how can American foreign policy work if you’re undermining your own message to other countries?

Despite the early efforts of Biden and his lieutenants, America remains the world’s only superpower. But our economic dynamism and military might can’t overcome our own self-doubt, self-hatred, and lack of belief and confidence in America.

Indeed, the American project in self-governance requires a strong national will, without which a nation cannot endure, prosper, and live free. As President Trump said in Warsaw in 2017, even if the West has the largest economies and the most lethal weapons on Earth, the nations that comprise Western civilization will be weak and not survive without strong values.

“Our own fight for the West does not begin on the battlefield — it begins with our minds, our wills, and our souls,” he said. In other words, the West will only be defeated by itself.

This point is especially pertinent as we enter Cold War II against China — a contest that will determine whether we leave behind a world of freedom and opportunity or darkness and oppression. How can we as a nation impose our will to prevail if we don’t even have the will to defend our own basic decency? We can’t.

The manner in which Biden, his team, and their allies in the media have verbally flagellated their country is shameful and detrimental. America must recover its self-belief in order for the 21st century to be another American century and not a Chinese one.

The left has been preaching hate of America, in one way or another, for decades and decades. This is NOT a new phenomenon by any stretch of the imagination. They are just employing more open and explicit tactics now, as they have gained so much power across the spectrum. The question is NOT what America must do to recover its self-belief in itself, as most of Americans never lost belief in our constitutional values or hated this country. Rather the question is “How do we remove or significantly reduce the threat from within, that threatens to tear this country apart?” That’s the real question most writers of these articles keep trying to dance around in some very convoluted ways. I think most Americans are generally smart enough to answer that question for themselves. As history has repeatedly shown the correct path to take. If not, then we have a more serious problem internally and no amount politically correct language and navel gazing will solve the problem. Just a thought.

I love America but the Biden Administration brings shame to its people. Sad to have a weak leader that encourages hate and dismisses the Constitution and the history of this country.
