Why Does the AARP Hate Seniors?

from  Redstate – by Erick Erickson

We know the AARP is typically left-leaning and sided with the Obama Administration on Obamacare and other policies that will wind up hurting seniors.

But now it seems they’re siding with the far-left environmental movement to put people out of work and raise energy prices — something that has a direct effect on seniors with fixed incomes.

The AARP and Sierra Club worked together to stall nuclear energy legislation in Iowa. They claimed the legislation would hurt seniors when, in reality, the legislation would have incentivized low cost nuclear energy production in Iowa.

The AARP joined with the Sierra Club in Mississippi too. The issue was different, but the operation was the same. The environmental group couldn’t get its way so it brought in the AARP to scare seniors, who in turn called legislators.

They did it in New York and North Carolina and Virginia among others. Each time, as the Sierra Club fell behind in its goals, it picked up the blue hair phone, called the AARP, and had them scare the mess out of seniors.

But it’s not just the Sierra Club.

With other groups, including Green Peace, the AARP is going all in against global warming. In the 2007 AARP magazine, they painted a picture of earth’s destruction. So while they advocate policies that would make today’s seniors’ grandkids unemployed, they also want seniors to know they’re destroying the planet for those unemployed grandkids. But, this is important because the trees are screaming.

Worse still, in going all in with left-wing groups, the AARP is seeking to undermine seniors’ access to cheap power. Remember, the left has every incentive to raise prices on power by getting rid of cheap coal energy, opposing nuclear energy, etc. That puts the AARP on both sides of the issue as it tries to hurt energy producers. For example, the AARP aggressively fights rate increases, as you’d expect from a group claiming to represent millions on fixed income. It has watchdog groups that harass utility regulators around the country. From Oklahoma to Georgiato Louisiana, the AARP wants seniors on “Watchdog” teams to watch regulators in the power sector. Of course, they side with liberal interests and turn those watch dogs into attack dogs.

The AARP made $2.8 billion supporting Obamacare’s cuts to medicare. Now it’s siding with Greenpeace, the Sierra Club, and others to oppose coal, gas, and nuclear power. It is not an advocacy group for seniors. Rather it is just another liberal interest group masquerading as caring about seniors.

Here’s proof Hillary Clinton lied last night on the Presidential Debate. Trump was RIGHT again. Hillary is a LIAR> Hillary did in fact support TPP and called it the gold standard. She announced on TV, in front of millions, she didn’t. “NO,’ she said. Well, sorry Clinton, it appears you’ve lied so many times, you think it’s okay now. Her lies are catching up with her. She’s unfit for President. Not to forget we can’t, and I repeat, we can’t have her serial sexually abusing husband back in the White House. Oh, good God. BIll Clinton is an abusive, abusive man towards women. He has USED so many women for sex and when caught, throws them under the bus. This is a man you would want back in the oval office? Wake up.

Every week or two for the past 15 years I have gotten junk mail from the AARP.. I will never join their liberal origination. They are just like all the other leftest groups. They don’t represent me and most time they don’t represent those who they claim to..

When AARP endorsed Obamacare and went all out for Obama we dropped AARP. They are NOT looking out for the senior citizens, they are looking out for their own money value. It seems to be getting to the point where we are standing by ourselves with NO honest organizations to represent anyone except the corrupt.

Anyone with the facts will not associate in any way with AARP. Its one of the most destructive organizations regarding seniors. Get the facts. Support AMAC, if for no other reason, to help counter the negative influence of AARP.

For a group that promotes itself as an advocate for seniors, they more often side with those that want to harm older people. They exploit them, and recommends “Death with dignity” aka euthanasia “The elderly have a duty to kill themselves to make way for the younger generation”. I bailed on AARP when I read that 10 years ago and refused to go back. They are a typically liberal, left wing outlet with all that comes with it, and I will not deal with them, or read anything they have to say in order to keep my blood pressure down.

I dropped AARP when they hitched their wagon to Obamacare. I knew then that they could not have my best interests at heart.

Dropped AARP like a hot potato when they supported ovomit and this EVIL corrupt administration! This AARP is non- caring for senior citizens if it is in agreement with obamacare. They are wanting to be ‘compensated’ for everything.. Wonder how much $ kickbacks they are getting? Thanks for listening…

Saw this coming a few years ago. I have dropped AARP for AMAC. At least they seem to care for seniors. All aarp cares about is selling you stuff and getting members. It has gotten way to liberal to help retiree’s.

I basically agree with everything PaulE has said in response. My main disappointment in the article is using the word “hate”. That is very unprofessional language for a company that wishes to continue to care for all people, especially its members.

AARP has been hijacked. They no longer act in the best interest of retirees.

AARP, like GE and some others, is all about crony capitalism. Forever feeding at the trough of the federal government. They see the far left administration in Washington and say to themselves “What can we do to be their good graces, so they’ll steer money and business our way?” So they sell out their customer base (in AARP’s case the seniors), in exchange for lucrative access to the politicians making the rules related to Obamacare, the nation’s energy policy (there’s a big insurance component in there too, if you think about it) and future preferential treatment from the federal government.

I don’t think AARP doesn’t hates seniors per se. They just don’t care about seniors beyond leveraging their customer base to maximize profits for the themselves. They’ve done an excellent job of selling their customer base the various insurance products, for which they no doubt get compensated for from the insurance companies they partner with. So now they’re branching out into other areas, where they can once again leverage their senior customer base, to generate new revenue streams for AARP. At some point, it would be nice if the majority of their customer base woke up to this fact that they are being used in this way.
